After 20 plus years in this business, we have accumulated
many helpful tips to share with our clients. These
will change according to the season, so check back
frequently.
Fall Maintenance
Make a visual check of your roof and flashings using
a pair of binoculars. Clean gutters after Thanksgiving.
It's OK to clean gutters once 80% of the leaves have
fallen. Leaves are large and bulky and usually do
not plug up gutters. So, if a few leaves fall into
the gutters over the winter season, it's OK.
Holiday
Lights
YOU CAN hang holiday lights on KGuard. BUT proceed
with caution, purchase clear plastic hangers and put
them into the small opening in the front of your
KGuard system. You can then procede to hang your
lights from the hooks. Happy Holidays from our
family to yours!
Winter Maintenance
| Icicles Notice this snow and ice would have been frozen solid inside your open conventional gutter. Yes! Its does make a little mess as it melts buts it’s a mess outside instead of inside on your ceilings and walls, creating roof damage. |

Spring Maintenance
Clean gutters in the spring after the blossoms and
seeds have fallen from trees and shrubs—usually
mid-May through mid-June. Your gutters are always
the last thing on your mind until a problem arises,
so call us to set up a service contract ensuring a
timely and routine gutter cleaning.
Make sure stairwell drains are clean and free of debris.
It is going to rain a lot in the spring and these
drains are critical to keeping the basement dry. If
you have a sump pump, test the motor by lifting the
cover off the sump area. Wiggle the float on the pump
until the motor starts. If it does not, push in the
red reset button found on most pumps. If it still
does not start, call your plumber!
Summer Maintenance
Summer is the best time to inspect your underground
drainage system. The best way to do this is to disconnect
the drains at the bottom of the downspouts and flood
them with a garden hose. Let the water run long enough
to determine where the exit end of the buried drain
is. Mark the ends of the drains for permanent record.
Very often drains exist on the downhill edge of the
yard. It is important that the exit end of the drain
does not get grown over or buried. If a drain is clogged
the first step to unclogging it is to use a pressure
washer with a long hose. Snake the hose into the drain.
Most drains have minor clogs and can be cleared in
this way. If the drain can not be unclogged, then
a professional with a cutting drain snake should be
contacted. We have had good success with Roto-Rooter
inside the beltway.
