Why is copper harder to install?
Depending on the design you choose, we may have to custom-make the copper pieces for your roof (which we are happy to do in our metal shop). Additionally, copper naturally expands and contracts a little bit with fluctuations in temperature, and this needs to be taken into account when it’s being installed.
Does it really last that much longer than other roof materials?
Yes, assuming it’s installed properly! In addition to the Old Philadelphia Church’s roof from 1742, there are structures all over Europe with copper roofs that are centuries old. At Gutterman Services, we have had 30+ years of experience and we guarantee we will install your copper roof to perfection.
What if my copper roof gets damaged - can you repair it?
Yes, we can! We are experts in both roof replacement and repair, so we are happy to fix any roofing issues that may come up.
do you offer copper cleaning service? i have two areas of copper flashing over my bay window installed recently (two months ago), but it is starting to discolor. I want to restore it to its original shine, and then apply a sealant to keep it that way.
Unfortunately, we aren’t really aware of a method to restore the copper to its original shiny finish.
Do you contract to apply a sealer to a copper roof over a bay window to preserve it current shiny color? Ballpark cost to do the work? How long would it last? If you don't this type of work, do you know anyone who does?
There is no reason to use sealers on copper roofs or flashings. Copper ages naturally going from shiny , to purplish bronze ultimately to green. Think of a penny and how it ages. Any topical application of a coating may stop the aging process but will likely have a hard time bonding to the copper so we don’t recommend it. Enjoy the new copper while it is sparkling and shiny! We expect it to stay that way for about a year.
